can anyone recommend a lightweight, wide-brimmed hat (wide enough to cover neck), that’s fairly waterproof(water-resistant at least), with an adjustable cinch cord (in addition to the cord that secures under the chin), with BREATHEABILITY for new england summer humidity?
thanks!

I think you’re describing the Tilley Airflo SPF 50, rain repellant, broad brim nylon hat with chin strap. The airflo is a mesh insert at the top of the crown for breatheability. http://www.tilley.com/LTM2-AIRFLO-Nylamtium-Hat.aspx I love mine!

It’s a bit pricey but is guaranteed for life (full replacement if it wears out, half price replacement against loss)

Enjoy

A lot of Garden stores sell wide brimmed hats. I bought a Henschel hat lightweight, wide-brimmed hat (wide enough to cover neck), water-resistant, with an adjustable cinch cord in addition to the cord that secures under the chin. I have used mine for years coaching football in the hot, humid, Georgia heat. I will also use it for day hikes. There is usually little reason to have that type of hat for long distance hiking on the AT. There is already plenty of shade. I also have an OR (Outdoor Research) bug hat that saved my life last year in MA and VT.

On my AT thru-hikes, I never felt the need for a wide-brimmed hat. I’ve hiked without a hat & with a lightweight visor. Except in the Whites, you’re under tree cover for much of the time during the summer in New England.
