What is a good website for checking for wildfires in the area of the JMT. Hiking the trail in August-wanted to know if anyone knew if any fires are burning now in the area of the JMT.

The fire is still quite a few miles from the southwestern entrance. If you are hiking the JMT you will be hiking away from the fire. The smoke was very thick on Monday in the valley, not quite as bad on Tuesday and at Toulomne meadows yesterday my daughter said it’s not nearly as bad as it was at Happy Isle. She brought a bandana to cover her face so she doesn’t have to breath so much smoke, but has not had to use it. She’s about 30 miles into the hike now.
