I thought it was 253? Saw it on the something channel last night. In MT. Washington’s defence the one guy said their record was regular weather, not the storm that pegged the 250+. Cool stuff. I believe 175mph will flip a railroad car.

Why did it take so long for the news to come out?
Does any even live on this island?
It was durning a super typhoon!
Mt. Washington still has the worst weather in the world on a regular basis.

I understand it took so long to verify because the recording station was an unmanned, automated station and the ‘authorities’ needed time to retest the equipment and then persuade the world it was functioning properly. It has been verified as the new record but my hat is still off to the Mt. Washington crew as they are on sight to maintain equipment and outlast the often brutal weather.
