I just got back from a 4 day jaunt from WSG to NOC…wow!!! The old Led Zep song Good Times Bad Times is about the only way to describe it. Siler Bald was fantastic…that was on Tuesday. Wed. I’m sittin in the tower on top of Wayah Bald just trying to get out of a misty rain when my weather alert radio goes off…since they named about every county in North Carolina for a flood warning I figured I was in for one…then Tim from South Carolina showed up and we began the 4 mile “Hike from Hell” to Cold Spring shelter…I have so many bruises on me from fallin down in the torrential rain and mud that it looks like somebody mugged me. But that was the only REAL bad day…Buddy who used to own Rainbow Springs campground shuttled me over to WSG…the guys at NOC had repaired a broken strap of mine for a buck…very helpful and knowledgeable guys at the NOC outfitter store…but their stuff is a little pricy (I did buy some Starbucks Doubleshot of 400 cals that helped get up Wesser Bald). Thursday and Friday were super…if you get a chance or have taken this one make sure you drink the spring water from Wesser Bald…the coldest and best spring water I’ve EVER tasted…so Good Times Bad Times…next year I’m thinking about the same area and Albert Mt. Later…Doc.
