Is there any difference in Wingfoot's 2007 Thru Hiker's Handbook and Bob McCaw's 2008 Thru-Hiker's Handbook? I already own Wingfoot's 2007 Handbook, is there any point in me spending 20 bucks for the 2008 edition? Did anything change? I am starting an AT northbound thru-hike on March 1.

the new editor, bob mcCaw, says the 2008 is available(mid-january).....but that the 2007 can be used for planning....i think you can get it online....check www.trailplace.com.......don't forget the aldha "companion", too (also online at www.aldha.org)

I used the 2007 aldha companion to plan and recently got the 08 version. one of our original maildrop locations -- Mountain Mommas -- has shut down. Particularly if you're using maildrops, I'd check to ensure that all POs and hostels that you're planning on shipping supplies to is actually still around.

there is so much info in the Handbook there must be some differences. Cross reference the important things with the online Companion and contact the businesses you plan to use directly for annual changes.

my big question, and maybe what sharky was looking for, are there any format differences b/w the wingfoot published handbook and the mccaw published handbook. did he just take over where wingfoot left off? besides the normal changes like trail relo's, hostels opening/ closing, new shelters, etc...are there any changes that would make it any different if it was a wingfoot 2008 handbook or any other past yearly updated wingfoot handbooks?

Bob McCaw's 2008 Handbook arrived last week, and the FORMAT is almost identical to Wingfoot's 2008 Handbook. It appears the town maps have been re-done, and some factual information has been updated.
I’ve already sent Bob some corrections for 2009 from the Shenandoah National Park and Luray areas. But most of what he published is accurate.
