Winter Heatwave

Not only is metro Denver “snowless” right now, but Wateron Canyon is open until January 31st, and many folks are enjoying the canyon for a bit. It will be shut tight again from January 31 through the rest of 2011.

Was up on Section 1 last week, hiking easterly from the South Platte to Bear Creek. Very little ice or snow at 7,200 feet. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of a 2011 CT thruhike beginning at the Gudy bridge instead of at the Indian Creek trailhead.

As always, email me if you would like ground transportation/assistance getting to one of the several starting points in 2011.

Happy Hiking Holidays to all!

Thanks for posting your Trail conditions for Segment 1. We’ve been contemplating a January 1st Segment 1 hike as a great way to start the new year… Sounds like it’s passable. Thanks TGuy!!

On Track

#3

On Track - sounds like a fine idea, although it might be bitterly cold this weekend. Hiked the Roxborough connector to Waterton Canyon, up the single track to Lenny’s Rest, and back around Indian Creek Trail yesterday. There were patches of frozen ground, but nothing big. I always carry a pair of Yak Trax just in case, but never pulled them out yesterday. Now that Waterton Canyon is open until January 31st, Section 1 is completely open. Lots of bikes…

Hike on,
