Wishing you could live closer to your beloved Arizona Trail? Well, here’s your chance at a slice of the good life. Dr Andrew Weil, world renowned MD and author, is selling his Vail ranch, located less than a mile from the Arizona Trail just outside Saguaro National Park, and featuring:

  • 85-Acre Historical site overflowing with peace and serenity
  • Compound w/main house, offices, guest houses, over 11,000 SF of living and work space
  • Bordered on 2 sides by Saguaro National Park East
  • Spectacular stone labryrinth ideal for walking, ralaxing and meditation created by Dr. Weil himself
  • Rich riparian habitat with abundant wildlife and water supply

Best of all, it’ll only set you back around $3,250,000, which seems like a sound investment, easily recouped by running a little trailside hostel for the droves of AZT’ers passing by each year.

Why not schedule a showing today?

Maybe we can all go in on a timeshare. 1000 AZT hikers at $3,250 each.

I got a bit off track leaving the Nat’l Park and walked the dirt roads throught this most amazing community for about 2 miles. The occasional cars that drove by were friendly but I felt wierd since I was probably not supposed to be there.

Apparently you need a gate key to access X9 Ranch Rd by vehicle. But the AZ Trail keeps to state land in this area, looks like. So I wouldn’t foresee any conflicts once the link to Madrona is complete and everyone’s on the same page.

As a side note, Rincon Creek Trail from Madrona to Heartbreak Ridge / Rincon Peak Trail might make for a more well-watered approach to the crest, although I understand the trail has fallen into disrepair, as they say (no doubt due to the difficult access). I also like how R.C. Trail - Heartbreak Ridge prolongs the high crest time in the Park, and half of this is the old AZ Trail route anyway.

There are a number of deviations like this which hikers could make use of if wishing to increase the “wild and scenic” aspects of an AZ Trail thru-hike. Will post some other ideas at some point…
