Has anyone used Yaktrax? If so, what’s the buzz?

Yaktrax are great for walking on hard ice and fairly level surfaces such as sidewalks and lakes. Climbing mountains on packed snow and changing conditions they would be of limited use. I would much rather have some instep crampons under those conditions. If I was doing winter hiking for an extended period of time I would use hiking crampons such as Kahtoonas. (excuse the spelling)

I just bought them and tested them out in the mountains this weekend.

Like Big B said, only good on flat ground. Jumping from boulder to boulder, or descenting will make them slip off. Plus, your legs get tired in them, I guess using stabilizer muscles to balance.

The only use I see for them is walking around town after freezing rain has froozen the sidewalks.
