Yardsale Treasure?

Aside from constantly checking this site for equipment deals and gear advice, I’m fond of stopping at local yard sales to check out what my neighbors are tossing. I recently picked up a winter bag for $50 bucks and have been quite happy with it. But I don’t know much about it or the company that made it. The tag says “High Camp” Camp 7. A google for this company did not help. Does anyone know what this bag was rated at? It’s quite warm.

You got a deal in my book. I have a Camp 7 bag I purchased in Colorado in 1976. I have cared for it meticulously and it is still a nice bag even now. Mine is a purple bag and was the ?north or south col model. Back then the nicer shops in Colorado rated these as good or better than north face which was hot back then and other competitors. The company was a small company in Boulder when I bought mine. If anyone knows more about them I would love to hear that also. I also have a Camp 7 down vest that, believe it or not, I wore today here in Boone, NC. I bought it at the same time.

I have to do this… 1976??? I was three. 3 !!!

I recently was talking to a bunch of undergrads (mostly freshman and sophomores) about pre-med, things to do, etc. When I mentioned my first year of college was in 1990 (I was still in HS), I could see several of them counting on their fingers how old they were then. Damn you start to feel old when they do that stuff to you…

Cheers to us older guys out there :cheers

What a coincedence! I was at our local flea-market last week, and came across a Camp 7 down sleeping bag. The seller asked $5 bucks for it. I had never heard of this brand, but after checking the bag out and finding it to be in great condition, I decided to buy it. It must be a winter bag because it weighs close to 3 and 1/2 pounds. Too heavy for backpacking, but great for camp-outs. My lucky day!

I had a feeling that age thing would come up! I only remembered the year because it was during the Centennial. …good find Pancho for 5 bucks.

I still use a camp 7 down vest I got as a (go off to college gift)in 1976. Wnen we retooled our gear a few years back I just could not give it up. Its very warm but looks like hell. It is fun to pull out gear thats older than most hikers out there.

Believe it or not, I still have my late 1960’s vintage external-frame Scout pack. It’s khaki cotton duck on an aircraft aluminum frame. Took it on a hike once with my son just to “go retro.” Most people didn’t know what it was, but a few old-timers broke into big smiles when they recognized an old favorite! (Hey I had one of those!)

airferret - Good grief!! I was married in 1976 - to the same great women who supports me on my section hikes each year. YOU feel old!? Actually, I don’t feel that old, but it is comical to imagine your mental anguish when those kids looked at you with an “ancient” awe. Keep on hiking. It keeps your outlook young regardless of the calendar. CBiscuit

I purchased an old Optimus stove from a yard sale for $5 last summer. I did a hike in the fall and used my old Kelty D-4 pack (1975) and this old stove. Its noisey as hell but heats water just as good as my alcohol stove. About a pound heavier though.
