Couple of questions…the ‘official’ kickoff is APril 1st?
or May 1st?

I cant remember, and also…how hard would it be, if we are doing ‘average’ miles a day from the ‘official’ start…to be in a town where you could hitch, or catch a bus or soemthing to Traildays in May? And what town would that be…in your guestamation…or say…any two towns with 40 miles either direction of where I would need to be in order to get to a even possible ride out…is that overly confusing?

Plus I need to pick up one of your guides soon.

Thanks

The Kickoff is usually the last weekend in April. I’m pretty sure this year’s Kickoff is the weekend of April 23, but I can’t check because I just tried to go to the webpage and for some reason I can’t get there. The web address for the Kickoff is http://siechert.org/adz/

Trail Days - that’s sometime in mid-may, right? You’ll be near LA then. The Saufley’s live in Agua Dulce CA, which is on the outskirts of LA. If you start the PCT at the Kickoff, it will take you about 3 to 3.5 weeks to reach the Saufley’s. They’re 454 miles from the beginning of the trail. I’m sure you could get to the LA airport or a bus station from the Saufley’s.

I just checked PCT-L, and I’ve got the web address wrong. PCT-L has the Kickoff web address as: www.pct77.org/adz, but that doesn’t work either. Maybe they’re doing maintenance on the site. PCT-L shows the Kickoff as the weekend of April 23, 2005. The action begins Friday afternoon and continues until Sunday morning, when all the hikers hike out.

There’s a lot of PCT support in Southern California. You might even find someone who is driving to Trail Days. I’d suggest posting something to PCT-L to find a ride from SoCal to Damascus. There’s a lot more traffic there than there is on this forum.

That’s a LONG drive between LA and Damascus. Don’t expect to be good for much when you arrive at either location. Even Amtrak gets exhausting by the third day.
