Hammock Hanger is so right. If you don’t like what the store is selling or the food that the resturant is serving, don’t go back.

I stopped going to WB when it got to be so political. Too much bickering and flaming for my taste. It’s more of a social event. I think most of the folks over there have never hiked, or not able to anymore. Lots of trolls too.
Jesup
WB has a lot of aging, has been former thrus who never hike anymore. Instead, they sit in front of the computer and exercise their cybermouths.
Cognition
You’re just a silly little packsniffing troll. Did you get banned or something little one? :bawling
GWB
You can scan their threads and see the same posters day in and day out. How much hiking can you do if you’re in front of a computer 24/7? I agree with the previous post doubting if any of them have ever hiked and are just giving out advice they read somewhere. I guess the term cyberhiker is the correct label. As stated earlier, there is a lot of name calling over stuff not even related to hiking or the trails.

You know since 2005 I have been around here and stopped posting here so much due to all the little attacking trolls, some even going so far as to impersonate others on here by using their names. Get a life, there are quite a few hikers with journals on TJ that are regulars on WB…and I’ve met quite a few out on the trail. I average 200-300 miles hiked a year, sorry if that puts me into a “cyber-hiker” category!
Almost There
I don’t care if they has or if they is or if they might. All I want is real data on the conditions I can expect to encounter.

WB has helped me plan my thru hike starting in March, and I’m using TJ for my journal. From my perspective, each site has different objectives, each with pros and cons.

If we could take all of the passion that these folks express for a website to right a real wrong, Now wouldn’t that be helpful!
Farsang
It’s not like it’s an either/or question. I love and have contributed to both sites.
My first question would be how much have you contributed, both of positive content and site-sustaining cash? Hmmm? Shouldn’t that be Step One?
Life is too short, dear god. My usual tactic anywhere is to ignore the negative ones and go on about with what makes me happy. That’s taken me alot farther in life than when I played the blame game.
Farsang, you said a mouthful! I’d hike with you.

I say we drive over to White Blaze and kick their asses… That will show them who the boss is.
really who cares… enjoy whatever forum you like. I rather think about what unites us all rather than what divides us… It is sAFE to say that both groups both are passionate about hiking and the outdoors…

Every hiking site has its niche. They all provide valuable information–sometimes mixed with entertainment–to serve their niche audiences.
I applaud both TJ and WB because their respective moderators don’t usually take a heavy hand and censor. That probably pisses some people off when they read a few words they disagree with, but that’s part of what freedom is all about.
As for WB being “political,” they have a specific Politics section for that. You have to jump through several hoops to be part of that. Anyone who doesn’t jump through those hoops won’t even see it. Anyone complaining about political discussions on WB must have raised his or her hand and said they want to join that part of WB. It’s a completely segregated area on the WB website.

We have (at least) two great web sites. They each have their strong points but between them, they do a lot to support the trail community.
I don’t know why their have been so many flames against WB on this site lately. I wish the negative comments would just stop. If you don’t like WB, then don’t go there.
Please don’t turn this site negative. I really like the positve nature of this site.
:cheers

Jan LiteShoe summed it up.
I appreciate the info & opportuntities both sites offer for the hiking community.
Enjoy the 2008 season all

Different strokes for different folkes. If you do not like wb, do not go to that site. There are plenty of hiker sites or every taste and we should all go where we are happiest. I agree with Jalan jalan, please, keep tj on positive, hiker focused chat. I enjoy both for different reasons. Only, leave tj when the negative, bashing begins. It accomplishes nothing. happy trails

Trolls from WB come over here and either start something or try and keep people here from posting negative comments about WB. Your site is back up and running, take off. WB use to be OK until the armchair-never been on a trail-hikers took over. Even the hackers try to shut them up.
JohnW
If you had posted that on WB your post would have been deleted and probably banned from that forum if you are not a paying member. If a paying member you can flame and call others names. Check out some of the (paying) veteran members post if you don’t believe me.

I love this site, thanks for the journals. I love wb’s forums, great info every time I’ve asked… “Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?”
