Thank you all for your unbelievable support. I still don’t have the important information I need to make a real update. It does looks like this thing will be long and drawn out. I am getting letters from hikers every day and they are being put to good use… they are really very reaffirming to me, too! THANK YOU! AND, NO IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO SEND LETTERS! I just want to say something…

This is a forum about hiking the AT, the services along the trail and it is a wonderful assistance to hikers needing help. Zip and Leif have worked hard to create this great site so we can all stay in touch with each other and stay current on what is happening in the AT community. The poster just wanted the number to one of the businesses on the trail. I have never wanted to hurt UJ’s business at all. Nolichucky Hostel is a nice place to stay and most hikers find it reasonably priced, clean and convienient if they don’t want or need to be in town. We offer many of the same services with some real differences …this gives hikers some choices. I know personally, that lots of people have been unhappy at UJ’s or were even abused in some way. Often they were made uncomfortable because of the way he talks about me. Just as many people have a great stay there and find UJ to be a good host. This situation is more personal than business.
I JUST WANT HIM STOP HARRASSING ME AND TO STOP SLANDERING ME TO HIKERS AND TO THE PEOPLE OF ERWIN AND UNICOI COUNTY. I WANT HIM TO STOP HURTING ME, MY GIRLS AND OUR BUSINESS! I WANT HIM TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE WAY HE IS TRYING TO “SHUT ME DOWN”, IS DAMAGING TO ERWIN AND TO THE VERY HIKERS THAT WE BOTH CHOOSE TO SERVE.
I really wish for a resolution to all of this soon.

Interesting comments above…Not taking sides, just an observation based on current and past descriptions/threads of the stated behavior of both parties involved (MJ and UJ)- consider this:
Personality Disorders - "Personality traits become personality disorders when they (a) become inflexible and maladaptive, and (b) significantly impair social and occupational functioning:
Criteria for Histrionic Personality Disorder
A. Behavior that is overly dramatic, reactive, and intensely expressed, as indicated by at least three of the following:
(1) self-dramatization, e.g., exaggerated expression of emotions
(2) incessant drawing of attention to oneself
(3) overreaction to minor events
(4) irrational, angry outbursts or tantrums

Cranium, hmmmm, find your response interesting but helpful.
You feel my comments are “obtuse”… actually it is a very direct and descriptive summary of the reactive behaviors folks have attributed to the individuals in question based on reported interactions between the two (here in Trail Journal and I believe but not certain on White BLaze).
Psychobable, the criteria stated in original response are well established in the clinical field for describing the behaviors.
Am I implying both individuals, or one, or neither, that is for the reader to decide (or not) based on a reading of the whole Trail Journal record.
With regard to your request that I “cut to the chase”, if that statement implies make a judgement, can’t do that, no, just an observation. I merely offered the observation as possible explanation of the dynamics involved between the two as reported by other…how other people articulate or respond to observation is an individual manner, as you have expressed.
Articulate my “observation”…I did with orignal response.
By the way, another observation based on reported dynamics of the two individuals in question, folks who exhibit some of the behaviors reported suffer from a similar personality disorder i.e., Borderline Persosnality Disorder. These folks are notorious for splitting - that is, they view people as “all good” or “all bad” and then get others to act out these roles.
Everywhere borderlines go, they set people against each other, create havoc, and walk away without anybody realizing until later that the “innocent” boderline caused the chaos.

My trail name is Penscal not Pascal, (nice name though) and I am not calling you “histerical”, nor am I taking sides in this matter.
Abnormal psychology text you reference is a diversion to issue, which by the way I doubt you have, unless you did graduate studies at UF/UWF graduate work in same.
Do I have an idea what you are talking about, no, but based on your response above and other readers comments, there is validity to observation, and I believe more to the story than both your or “Uncle Johnny” are letting-on-to,
Good number of readers have had emotional responses to matter, some like you alot, some think otherwise, I have no prefernece, both of ya’lls behavior, well, lets say for those folks who happen apon both of your services, I hope you guys get over it.

WHOA!! I was the one who originally posted this thread because I needed Uncle Johnny’s number to dissolve a business dispute. He was supposed to refuse a package for me and he never did it. While out on the trail, I could never get his number because everyone and their mother had ripped out all the excess pages in their wingfoot handbook (including me). Now I am home and it is probably too late to get it back, but I do have the UPS record that confirms it was delivered to his place.

HAHAHAHAHA…thanks for the comic relief “Penscal” …your posts come off like Andy Rooney with a thesaurus. Now, without being clinical…can you tell us what you really think? Perhaps your “prefernece” is to wow us trail-folk with a marginally lofty (if that) vocabulary instead of instilling even an iota of opinion…other than being adamant that you don’t have one. At any rate it has really perturbed me (fluffed my nuts) and left me in a quandary (mindfk) as to what my feeble pile of gray matter (st for brains hiker-mentality) should do next. …think I’ll traverse across the land (hike).
