tu, you may want to revisit your reading of “just war” theory. in its historic context it has little relevance today. it was written to provide an excuse for the church to carry out its own “crusades” (and some thought muslims invented the crusade) and in particular to fight off attempts to establish alternative power structures, i.e., the nation state. just war theory requires, among other things, that it be a last resort, and that those engaged in it have legitimate authority-which we do not as members of the UN. The UN is an organize we joined willingly and in so doing agreed to play be certain rules-ones we made up. the UN does nothing we don’t want it to-we have veto power. ever wonder why every major religion (with the exception of southern baptists-quel surpris-wrote letters in opposition to its application in the iraq case). by the way, women in Saudi are certainly not “happy”! if using “bunker buster bombs” to target suburbs where Hussain might be isn’t an example of making little effort to avoid civilian death, i don’t what is.
