Hi,
Worn Miles here. 61 yo from NJ. Been section hiking the AT for years completing HF to Bennington, VT. Recently retired from USPS and now is my chance to complete the rest of the trail. Will be flipping up to VT after I hit HF. I plan on starting either April 17 or May 17. Waiting for a co-worker to retire. Getting some great advice from the other 60+ hikers, mainly, listen to your body- very important! Hope to see you all out on the trail.

Hi, I’m currently planning and training for thru hiking northbound the Colorado Trail with my daughter. We’ll start in Durango Mid July 2019. I’ve settled on some gear, but I’m really leaning on learning others experiences with gear that worked great or didn’t. I also love hearing stories of the AT or PCT and how varied daily routines on trail can be. This will be my first big journey, thru hiking and the last time I went backpacking was in high school. I’ll be taking her for a week long backpacking trip this summer and am still deciding where.

Hello, my husband and I are late “bloomers” we just started hiking 4 years ago. I am 60, he is 57. We live in Massachusetts, have hiked 29 of the New Hampshire’s 48 four thousand footers. We have hiked all of the AT in Mass, part of CT, NH, and we did the 100 mile wilderness last August in Maine. We took 10 days to hike the wilderness trail, that was the longest backpacking trip for us, all of our other trips have been only on weekends. On this 100 mile wilderness I knew I could hike the AT. Unfortunately the 4 letter word, work, puts a damper on our plans. But I have seen plenty of older people doing the AT and I will be one of them, as well, someday!
Our plan now is just to section hike as much as we can on the AT till we retire.

Hi I’m Chickenfeet GA-ME 2003. Looking for info about conditions near Catawba/Macafee’s Knob/Tinker Cliffs. Snow is falling there now. Would you take a 7 year old there on Monday? (For three nights of backpacking?)

Hello everyone. I’m Tony Paulhus (Trailname “Fuel”).
I’m 56, married, living in Iowa after retiring from a 23 year career in the Air Force. I now work for Iowa schools. I’ve been backpacking on/off since 1979. I’m closest to the Superior Hiking Trail in MN, but I’ve been able to section hike 10% of the AT on 2 summer vacations. I plan to do more when I’m able to get back. Glad to be here.

Hey all my name is Allen, I live in NJ and I’m looking for a nice spot that I can hike/camp for 3 days/nights on the east coast, preferably within 6 hrs drive time of NJ. I’ve been doing day hikes for a few years and me and the wife want to start doing longer hikes and begin setting up camp at night. We are looking to go at the end of May, any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi, am Sabine, hoping to hike the Colorado trail this year. Coming from South Africa, I am wondering if there is anyone out there from Denver to help me get settled in before the actual hike.

You are quite welcome Slip. You’ll find there are a lot of folks here in the hiking community that are willing to help other hikers achieve their goals. Glad you have decided to join the community and Good Luck on your hiking adventures, what trail are you starting 4-16-2019?

Greetings, my trail name is Kwai and I’m leaving Mt. Katahdin to SOBO the AT beginning June 28, 2018! I’m a writer and general wanderer, peaceful by nature and look forward to continuing my adventures. If you’ve got the same departure date as mine feel free to let me know - even if we don’t meet it will give me someone in common out there!

Hola - I am a long term, long distance section hiker, Doc and me have been hiking for 16 years, working mostly NOBO but we have hiked SOBO through the Whites, if we can get back on the trail next year, we may complete the AT in 3 more years. One thing about section hiking is that I have learned each year on what worked and what did not - now if only my knees hold out…
My trail name Mapmaker is from when I used to make paper strip maps of the the section we were hiking each year, now I make customized geoPDFs of the section we are tackling and use Avenza on my phone - saves weight as I have to carry the phone anyway. Hike On!

Hi, I’m a 54 year old lady that has been planning to hike the AT with my husband. It is a dream I have held since high school when my friends and i often hiked and camped on the AT in the Shenandoah National Park. I have been very active all my life and continue to walk ten miles a day and ride horses everyday. My particular challenge is my health. Ten years ago I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. We did our first overnight hike and camp with full packs this past weekend on Blood Mountain in Ga. the fire has been lit…
Im hoping to get information from others who have health challenges to determine if this is even possible.
